I wanted to check out some of the changes in Downtown Detroit such as the new Casino - Hotels.
My wife and I went to MGM to take a look at the hotel and to eat breakfast at Wolfgang Puck. The Hotel is really awesome. MGM did not cut any corners. The public restrooms have marble floors, stainless doors, and really high end fixtures. I was really surprised to see how nice it was.
Eating breakfast at Wolfgang Puck was a typical hotel restaurant breakfast, nothing special except for the price. I am sure dinner there would be much better. We walked around the casino area and it was small compared to Vegas but very well done. I was surprised that such a small first floor the hotel had two Star Bucks. Since I hate Star Buck's coffee it did not matter much to me.
Overall it was really nice to see something going on for Detroit. Hopefully it will be more than a mini-Vegas but at least some improvements are taking place. Another hotel, the MotorCity Hotel-Casino opened. I drove by it and it is a really sharp building. I would like to go there to check it out one weekend.

I think the hotels are a good idea. The "Big 3" are not that big anymore and Michigan needs some type of industry. Maybe Casinos and some entertainment may draw people here from other states.
One thing I have been to some plays downtown and compared to New York and other places it seems the actors are the 2nd string. This will have to change. I am not a big person on plays but know people that go to Stratford Canada and they tell me it seems the theater groups do not care about performance in Michigan as-if people here do not care if the acting is "quality"
