AND UNFORTUNATELY TRUE!!!! The federal government is sending each and every one of us a $600 rebate. If we spend it at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China . If we spend it on gasoline, the money will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India . If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala If we purchase a good car, it will go to Japan If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep the money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes, weed, beer, and tattoos since these are the only products still produced in the USA . Thank you for your help and please support the U.S.

RE: Tax Rebates

The Stimulus check is probably great but by the time I'll get mine ... middle of July!!!! I lost my job, still fighting unemployment, and can't find another job. I have a 16 year old dying to take driver's training($400),a 8 year old that needs surgery and I am trying to figure out how to pay for the gas to get him to the hospital. FIA won't do anything for you unless you can devoye 40 hours to them but since my 8 year old can't attend school ,who's going to watch him? I used to be one of MI's biggest fans, but at this point Granholm and Bush has everything so screwed up, I pray every night not to be the next family at the homeless shelter! Thanks for letting me vent!!

RE: Tax Rebates

To me this "stimulus" package is a joke. Yea, $600 to $1200 I'll take it, but recent there was a report that credit charges shot up. At first this was talked about as consumers spending money, then oops, I think people are using credit cards to pay for gas and food.
Why old George Bush fills his wallet with all the oil money in his family.

This gas issue is really ridiculous. GM had an AWESOME Electric Car back in the 90's. California had an entire infrastructure setup for people to charge the car while shopping, at work, or eating dinner. What did GM do? They CRUSHED all of the cars. Why? The fools could not not make any money on spark plugs, OIL, filters, and tune ups. GM would have been the leading car company today, not Toyota, if they did not get stupid and greedy.

Here is a link to the trailer to "Who Killed The Electric Car" Answer: GM, California Government, and OIL Companies.

RE: Tax Rebates

Up here in Gaylord, the job situation is beyond belief. More companies are moving out than moving in. My boyfriend, Mike still has not received his check, come to find out it won't be mailed out until the middle of July. He is driving over the road 6 wks at a time just to make ends meet until I can find a job then maybe he won't have to run as long. Good luck to you Jess hopefully things work out for you there. I don't know why the government is taking their time in getting those checks out. People need them now not six months from now. I will not be getting one of those checks, no income for the past four years.

RE: Tax Rebates

well we havnt gotten our rebate back yet but BF and kids dog and I have now moved to Nashville TN.. As the prices rise more jobs are lost; it's a vicious circle of decline. I hear the word recession hinted at in the news. HINTED at. Who are they kidding? I pray we start taking responsibility for what's happening and begin correcting it. I know some progress is happening but it's not enough. I hate to see people losing their homes and savings and dreams. I wish we could start up our own industry and call it SURVIVAL. If the government doesn't kick in fast enough, the citizens should. We need to come up with new, marketable products that are reasonably priced so the majority can afford them.

Best Regards,

NanL

RE: Tax Rebates

NanL,

That is really sad. There was an article in the news recently that there are so many foreclosures that people are leaving their homes and moving on. One really sorry thing is people leave pets behind. The article said that in the last few months the amount of abandoned dogs went up by 30%. I can understand if people have to leave and maybe where they are going they cannot take pets, but at least they could make the effort to first find a home, and if they cannot then take the animal to a shelter.

RE: Tax Rebates

I'm happy for the people who are benefiting but it's hard to watch so many people suffering. For instance, at a local store, an overheard conversation between an older couple.

"Pet food prices have sure increased," the woman complained.

"Yeah," and I have to buy gas yet. You had to have two cats," the husband said.

"Maybe I can give one away," the woman replied.

That says it all. We need to PUMP Michigan to get her going!!! It's hard letting go of pets. The biggest rebate was the 1.25 point fed funds rate cut. People with adjustable mortgages or home equity loans would already see the benefit. So there are a couple of forms of cash coming back for people and more so for home owners that may have home equity or lines of credit on a home loan.

RE: Tax Rebates

(My wife) and I would go for that, but I think the house isn’t for it. I love this state and I love my country but I fear my government.[/quote]

I am with you on this one 100%. There is so much waste in government. I was in the U.S. Air Force in the last 1980's and I saw so much waste. I worked as a jet mechanic and one year the group I was in had excess funds in the budget. In order to keep that same level of funding for the next year we were "ordered" to throw out thousands of dollars in tools so we could spend the "excess" money on new tools and keep the same budget for the next year.

I think the tax cuts are a good idea, more money in pockets always helps. The interest rate cuts are another good idea that should at least help people get out of some expensive adjustable mortagages.

Let me say.... Welcome to the forums! :D

RE: Tax Rebates

I agree the "rebates" are a good thing however I don't feel they will boost the economy. I think people are going to be hanging on to them for future use because of all the jobs being sent overseas or south of the border. People are going to need something to get by on for a week or two until they can find that minimum wage job that thousands of people are applying for. Our economy is in real trouble and I don't think these "rebates" are going to do much good for it. Getting rid of the income tax? Maybe for the state income tax yes. There are several states that do not have a state income tax and their economy and jobs are on the rise. We have a state income tax and our state government had to shut down because they couldn't agree on a budget. When they finally did, the state still didn't have any money. I would love to know what they are doing with all the money they collect for income tax, it sure isn't going for creating jobs, fixing our roads, or our schools. I think everyone in government should have to take a pay cut and try and live on what they feel each citizen of this state should live on. I love this state and I love my country but I fear my government.

RE: Tax Rebates

These rebates are a good thing.
