My name is Mark Buskirk. I have a strong interest in music and started a band not long ago. I wrote many "car" songs that people enjoy.

I recently took my 56 Caddi to the Dream Cruise and wanted to share an article from the FREEP on the 56 Caddi and the show.

[hr]

Frank Alessi was reminded of that Saturday morning behind the wheel of his son-in-law's '56 Cadillac Sedan DeVille.

The black 20-footer with a cream-colored top stalled in Ferndale in the middle of General Motors Corp.'s Century Cruise -- the Dream Cruise morning parade of more than 100 GM cars to commemorate the company's 100-year history.

The automaker asked employees and retirees for stories about their GM vehicles -- vintage and modern -- and chose those that would make the GM Century Cruise, from its Renaissance Center headquarters to Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak.

"You see people who really love the products that we have the privilege of producing," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner, who led the parade in a Corvette Z06 concept that runs on E85 fuel.

Cruising through Detroit, Alessi -- a retiree from GM's Romulus Transmission plant -- said he was surprised to see people along Woodward in Detroit snapping pictures and waving. He noted how proud he was of his son-in-law, Mark Buskirk, for his work on the car.

But in Ferndale, the Caddy's rumbling engine went quiet. Alessi turned the key and heard only empty whirs.

GM's organizers conveniently brought a tow truck on the parade route. "You build yourself up to have this day," Buskirk said. "As Frank Sinatra would say, 'That's life.' It was Who Killed the Electric Car. This car that GM made in late 1990's was called the EV1. (Electric Vehicle 1).

The car could drive around 100 miles on a charge, and with a new battery that came out close to 200 miles. It was faster than many V6 powered cars and very reliable. GM only allowed people to lease the car and did it because California required some Zero emission cars. Later after CA caved in GM took all the cars back from the owners and CRUSHED THEM ALL! There is only 1 left for a museum but GM ripped out the power train. This amazing movie really tells a tale of greed of GM, Oil Companies, and the weakness of the California Goverment. Compared to what is on the market today this car is still ahead of its time. If have not seen the movie, rent it, you will be amazed.

Move Site Click Here Also See EV1.org
Anyone Going to the Auto Show?

My wife and I are planning on going this weekend. Actually, I did not plan to attend again but this time my wife would like to go. She has never been to the show. I have been to two auto shows and two auto Rama's over the last twenty years. I did not think I would be attending again. There are fun but the crowds are huge. I found that if you arrive when Cobo Hall opens you can get in and actually walk around and see some of the events. It is best to leave by 11:00 because it is packed.

When I attended in 2004 (I think or '05) it was the year the Pontiac Solstice, Mustang, Chrysler 300 Hemi, (and still the Camaro) were concepts. Now seeing the Solstice on the road it is a "ho-hum" kind of car. The Saturn Sky is much sharper but they need to beef up the HP.

Below is a Hyundai Concept from the '04 show (The model? I have no idea). I have to say I like the Hyundai (The Azera rides as smoooth as glass, and price 1/2 of a Lexus with all the features.)

ANOTHER OF MY TOYS!

NOT A HARLEY, but what an awesome Chopper! The first photo below is of my 100th Anniversary Road king, powered by a 103 ci locally built engine! Strong!!! The second is my pride and joy, 2000 Deuce Show Bike. Named DeucesWild, with a 124ci Zipper Kit, this machine puts 158 hp and 135ft pounds of torque to the rear wheel! MUCH STRONGER!!!!! Took first place in a recent Denver Bike Show, with its 24k laced gold paint job, and three dimensional graphics.

Hope you like them!

Chuck

1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture

I thought I would share some photos of my Royal Star Venture.

I should say my former bike. I sold it a couple of years ago to pay for college. It was really a beauty. I bought it used in 2005 in Atlanta and trailered it back to Michigan.

I have to say that my wife must love me a lot, she made the trip with me in August. It was burning hot in Atlanta.

Here is the right side view of the bike.
