$300 to any adult who earned an income, but did not earn enough to
file taxes.

$600 to any adult who earned an income, and had to file taxes.

$1200 to any married couple who filed jointly with either 1 or 2
incomes.

$300 to any child you cliamed on your 2007 taxes as a dependant.

If you are a single filer, and earned over $75,000, you lose 10% of
the rebate per $1000 over the $75k.

If you are a married couple filing jointly, and earned over $150k,
you lose 10% of the rebate per $1000 over the $150k.

People who receive SSI will receive the $300-$600 per adult,
depending on income aside from SSI.

Anyone who owes back child support will not receive the check- it
will go to the person the money is owed to.

Anyone who owes back taxes will not receive the check- it will go
towards the balance remaining on back taxes.

Anyone who has a tax lein will not receive the check- it will go
towards paying the lein off.

None of this has actually been 100% signed through, though- keep
that in mind, it could still get dropped. No one thinks it will
happen with the backing of both parties, but it IS a possiblity.

It's also possible that the rules of the rebate could change- who
gets it, the amount it'll be, etc.

These rebates are a good thing. Now lets drop the income tax all together, then we will seen some booming growth.

I agree the "rebates" are a good thing however I don't feel they will boost the economy.  I think people are going to be hanging on to them for future use because of all the jobs being sent overseas or south of the border.  People are going to need something to get by on for a week or two until they can find that minimum wage job that thousands of people are applying for.  Our economy is in real trouble and I don't think these "rebates" are going to do much good for it.  Getting rid of the income tax? Maybe for the state income tax yes.  There are several states that do not have a state income tax and their economy and jobs are on the rise.  We have a state income tax and our state government had to shut down because they couldn't agree on a budget.  When they finally did, the state still didn't have any money.  I would love to know what they are doing with all the money they collect for income tax, it sure isn't going for creating jobs, fixing our roads, or our schools.  I think everyone in government should have to take a pay cut and try and live on what they feel each citizen of this state should live on.  I love this state and I love my country but I fear my government.

I am with you on this one 100%. There is so much waste in government. I was in the U.S. Air Force in the last 1980's and I saw so much waste. I worked as a jet mechanic and one year the group I was in had excess funds in the budget. In order to keep that same level of funding for the next year we were "ordered" to throw out thousands of dollars in tools so we could spend the "excess" money on new tools and keep the same budget for the next year.

I think the tax cuts are a good idea, more money in pockets always helps. The interest rate cuts are another good idea that should at least help people get out of some expensive adjustable mortagages.

Let me say.... Welcome to the forums!

Any money back into the ecomomy. People typically spend more when they have more. How many people will put this on a credit card?  Not sure how much a thousand bucks a family will do for the economy. We spend billions in Iraq what about helping people around here.

Amongst it all, despite what could or should be done

and if the rebate checks get passed

All I can say is it will surely help my household out as I am sure many others as well.

Just my random thoughts on the topic.

i know if we get the tax rebate we will use it to pay off the rest of our car loan. it will free up money for us but i think we are more interested in saving right now, not spending. we are trying to say no to the consumerism thrown at us everyday.

(My wife) and I would go for that, but I think the house isn’t for it. But the senate is, so write to your senator (and legislator), that you want the rebates to go to all legal citizens. Send them an email.

My wife and I could spend it on a new roof for our house, or use it on a down payment for a (new) pre-owned car. We could use the money to help pay for the increase in medical insurance. We could use the money for the increase in co-pay for our prescriptions. We could use the money to help purchase the costly fuel for our 11-year-old car. Or help pay for the increase in food prices.

Yep, we’re all for it!
