I just read that GM and Ford want money (asking for $50 billion) from the U.S. Government to support building alternative cars, it really burns me.
Did you know that GM actually built a successful electric car in the 90s? It was only available in California on lease. California built an entire infrastructure that allowed people to charge the car while working, shopping, or going to school. The car had a range of 150 miles on one charge. With advanced batteries the range was expanded to 300 miles.
Still a good looking car by today's standards.

Rent the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car" and see how GM crushed all these cars even when people begged to purchase the vehicles. They were going to pay double the value.
Why did GM crush these cars? Well the DEALERS could not make any money servicing these cars. They did not require oil changes, air filters, or spark plugs. They did not need a "tune up."
California is on the hook for this as well. The CA legislator was forcing car manufactures to produce emission free vehicles. This got the ball rolling then later canceling the law. Guess what, GM responded with destroying all the cars. On of my neighbors "was" an engineer at Ford. He was just let go. Ford and GM begging for money and at the same time pushing jobs to India, now they want loans from the U.S. Goverment! Give me a break!

It’s not surprising. The US bailed out Chrysler in the 1970’s. If the US can spend 3 billion a week a senseless unnecessary war, why not spend money on developing an electric car? It’s the same old story of the rich politicians helping the rich businesspeople with the poor taxpayers money. Except in this case borrowed money from China, but the poor taxpayer still pays the bill. (A billion here a billion there adds up soon to a trillion, but who’s counting?) Watch our National debt grow here: http://zfacts.com/p/461.html Summer is going too fast! The only good thing about August is that the tomatoes are in abundance.
