| Hi Everyone, This is my first post to the forum. My name is Mark Buskirk. I have a strong interest in music and started a band not long ago. I wrote many "car" songs that people enjoy. I recently took my 56 Caddi to the Dream Cruise and wanted to share an article from the FREEP on the 56 Caddi and the show.
Frank Alessi was reminded of that Saturday morning behind the wheel of his son-in-law's '56 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The black 20-footer with a cream-colored top stalled in Ferndale in the middle of General Motors Corp.'s Century Cruise -- the Dream Cruise morning parade of more than 100 GM cars to commemorate the company's 100-year history. The automaker asked employees and retirees for stories about their GM vehicles -- vintage and modern -- and chose those that would make the GM Century Cruise, from its Renaissance Center headquarters to Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak. "You see people who really love the products that we have the privilege of producing," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner, who led the parade in a Corvette Z06 concept that runs on E85 fuel. Cruising through Detroit, Alessi -- a retiree from GM's Romulus Transmission plant -- said he was surprised to see people along Woodward in Detroit snapping pictures and waving. He noted how proud he was of his son-in-law, Mark Buskirk, for his work on the car. But in Ferndale, the Caddy's rumbling engine went quiet. Alessi turned the key and heard only empty whirs. GM's organizers conveniently brought a tow truck on the parade route. "You build yourself up to have this day," Buskirk said. "As Frank Sinatra would say, 'That's life.'
