| Hi Patrick, Here is what really went down ; Sometimes you gotta work pretty hard to embarrass yourself. Here is a tough lesson in time and unforeseen occurrences, don't let this happen to you.
I did not get exactly the type of publicity I was looking for at the GM 100 yr Cruise. But it was still really cool, man did they ever take a lot of pictures, if you go to freep.com under GM 100 Ferndale you can see more http://www.emailthis.clickability.com/et/emailThis?clickMap =viewThis&etMailToID=1728478459 and http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=C4&Date=20080816&Category=NEWS13&a mp;ArtNo=808160805&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=5( pictures 5-10 of 18 ). We even had a reporter from Free Press riding in car with us, we told her about our car and its special past n all the work done on it and our music story so far, and about how I was letting my Father-in-law a GM 44yr retiree drive the car as special retirement gift and about the " Tail Fins and Chrome " stamp release scheduled for Oct. 3rd in PA, even handed her an official media release from Postal H.Q. But you know how the media is they've got to report on the negative instead of all the good that they could have done with all the great info we gave them. As Paul Harvey would say, here is " The rest of the story " : We worked our guts out on the car for months before cruise ( tune up , valve pan cover gaskets, carburetor, brakes, touch up paint and detailing the heck out of it ), it looked and ran better than ever. All the work we did on the car ourselves was good. We thought it was the fuel pump at first, then next morning we poured gas in the tank and it flooded the garage floor with gas. I looked at tank and saw what looked like a bullet hole. It turned out to be a damaged gas tank from a repair shop that did our exhaust, ( they knocked a plug loose that stayed in place just long enough to come out during parade ) of course they would not admit that they caused the damage. I had the tank repaired and relined to the tune of $350.00, As Dean Martin would sing " Ain't that a kick in the head ". ( tank back on car now, had radiator done at same place n time, it goes on next ). Could have been worse could have been another Hindenburg disaster , oh the humanity ! In this case oh the humility ! P.S. GM was really cool they provided the tow truck and after we took car home they wanted me to come back to their setup at Athens Coney Island which we did and people were taking more pictures and interviews.
Will be cruisin again soon, Mark AKA " Duke of Wheels "
